Margot Robbie recalls how she bumped into John Cena, and when she asked him to be in Barbie, he accepted the invitation.
In an interview with Chris Van Vliet, Robbie was asked about Cena’s role in the film. Van Vliet noted that he felt like Robbie, a known wrestling fan, had something to do with making it happen, and she stated that she did. Robbie described how she ran into Cena in London, and they both happened to be shooting a movie in Leavesden.
“I did. It was actually a fortuitous…yeah, it happened while we were shooting in London, I ran into him at a restaurant, and we’d worked together before,” Robbie said. “I ran into him because I went to pay the bill, and they were like, ‘John Cena already took care of it.’ I was like, ‘What? Where is he?’ I mean, he’s a big guy. Yeah, I couldn’t see him. [Does the ‘You can’t see me’ taunt] But I was like, he’s hard to hide.
“Anyways, I was like, ‘What are you doing here?’ He was shooting [a movie], where we shit the film as well. I was like, ‘That’s where we’re shooting Barbie.’ I was like, ‘Do you want to come be a merman in Barbie?’ He was like, ‘Uh, yeah.’ I was like, surely he’s not gonna agree to it just like that, and he did. He’s so awesome like that.”
Robbie and Cena previously worked together in James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad, which led to the former WWE Champion starring in the Peacemaker spin-off series. James Gunn recently provided an update on the show. Check out his comments here.
